Hostel Robbery And Attacks On Students: Team Of Unilorin Union Officials Met With Community Heads And Hostel Owners, Made Some Resolutions (See Details)

 A team of Unilorin Students Union officials in early hour of Saturday met with Community leaders and hostel owners both in Oke Odo and Oko Oba axis of Tanke on issues connected to insecurity and robbery of student hostels in those areas. 

The statement that was co-signed by TAOFIK Waliu Opeyemi (OMOLUABI), The Union President and OLABODE Stephen Opeyemi (O' SMART), the Union's Public Relations Officer and was made available to DaOptimistic had it that the first meeting took place at Oko Oba where the team was able to meet with the Magaji, landlord association and hostel owners. The meeting conclusion was that a team of vigilante will commence night patrols as an alternative security measure to curb the menace in the area. 

Also, the team then moved to Oke Odo and held a meeting with Magaji and representatives of Hostel owners of the community at Jalala Primary school where the following resolutions were made:


1. The community will organize an awareness to sensitize members on insecurity and safety measures.

2. Students staying in hostel with few occupants are advised to temporarily move in with their friends in hostels with more population pending end of the strike.

3. Students should desist from raising false alarm or creating tension through unnecessary noise and arguments.

4. Students should abstain from late night movement. Okada riders are not allowed to move beyond 9pm as stipulated by the state government.

5. Subsequently, representatives of the Union will attend the community meetings.

It was concluded that the implementation of the resolutions are to follow immediately. 

The Union team then advised Unilorites to stay safe, be security-conscious and report any issue to the Union and Police.
